Project Overview
The Ras Al Hamra PDO Project, initiated by ONJP Oman, involved an extensive topographic survey of approximately 25,000 hectares. The project's primary focus was to provide detailed topographical data for the development and planning of the Ras Al Hamra region.
Objective
The key objective was to achieve millimeter-level accuracy in the topographic survey, a stringent requirement set forth by the client to ensure the utmost precision for development planning.
Challenges
The main challenge was meeting the client's expectation of millimeter accuracy in the RTK drone survey across a vast and varied terrain. The project demanded exceptional accuracy and detail, surpassing standard surveying precision levels.
Solutions Implemented
1. High-Precision RTK Drone Surveys:
- Utilized advanced RTK drones capable of capturing topographic data with the required millimeter accuracy.
- Carefully planned flight paths to cover the extensive area while maintaining the high precision needed.
2. Ground Verification:
- Conducted ground-based surveys using Leica RTK GPS systems at approximately 300 strategically chosen points to validate and supplement the drone data.
- Ensured that the ground survey techniques were in alignment with the drone data for consistent accuracy.
3. Data Analysis and Processing:
- Processed the collected data using sophisticated software, achieving high-resolution topographic maps.
- Applied advanced analytical techniques to ensure data accuracy, focusing on key metrics like RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) and MAE (Mean Absolute Error).
Achievements
The team successfully met the client's high-accuracy expectations, with the survey data showing an RMSE of 0.98 and an MAE of 0.95, indicating extremely high precision. This level of accuracy was confirmed by the client's surveyors through independent checks.
Outcomes
The topographic survey for the Ras Al Hamra PDO Project set a new standard in precision for large-scale land surveys. The data provided was crucial for the detailed planning and development of the region, offering ONJP Oman the confidence to proceed with their projects, knowing the groundwork was laid with exceptional accuracy.
