Project Overview
Nusail Engineering Consultancy, Sultanate of Oman, was awarded the contract for Bathymetric and Topographic Survey at Gamdah and Al Jari – Musandam, Sultanate of Oman by HMR.
Scope of the Survey
- Conducted a 100-hectare bathymetric survey with a grid of 20 meters.
- Performed a 50-hectare topographic survey.
- Prepared maps with contour lines at 0.25 meter intervals and an appropriate scale for future design and bidding engineering works (1:1500).
- Provided drawings showing survey results in .dwg format.
- Delivered ASCII code (x, y, z coordinates) for both Bathymetric and Topographic Surveys.
Equipment List
- Odom Hydrotrac Echo Sounder
- Transducer
- Valeport Tide Gauge
- Sokkia RTK GPS
- Sokkia Total Station
- Bar Plate
Survey Procedure
An Odom Hydrotrack Echo Sounder was utilized, and 200 kHz digital outputs were logged by the navigation computer. Bar checks were conducted at the beginning of each day. The computer received corrected GPS-derived Latitude and Longitude. The navigation software converted the antenna position into local UTM projection coordinates. During the survey, a Valeport Tide Gauge was installed at the key wall in Khasab Port, tied to a client-supplied benchmark (NSA). Bathymetric data were acquired in the area at 20-meter intervals along each line. All data from the peripherals were logged into software. Time was logged in UTC.
Results
An Odom Hydrotrack single frequency (200 kHz) Single beam Echo Sounder was utilized to acquire bathymetry data. The bathymetry data were processed using HydroPro Software.
