Bathymetry, Sediment Profiling & Secchi Disk in SEZAD Port

Overview

The project involved providing comprehensive services for a Bathymetric Survey, Secchi Disk measurement, and Sediment Sample collection for the Coastal Erosion Assessment and design of coastal protection at the Special Economic Zone at Ad Duqm, Sultanate of Oman. The aim of the marine survey was to perform bathymetric survey, Secchi disk measurement, and sediment profiling.

Scope of the Survey

  • Bathymetric profiles will follow transects perpendicular to the shoreline from the Mean Higher High Water Mark to the 15m bathymetric contour line.
  • Sediment profiling along the proposed locations.
  • The gravimetric methodology of retained fractions using ASTM sieves No. 10, 14, 18, 25, 30, 35, 45, 60, 80, 120, and 230.
  • Secchi Disk depth measurements.

Survey Procedure

A comprehensive survey was conducted at SEZAD Port to assess coastal erosion and design coastal protection. Bathymetric profiles were recorded perpendicular to the shoreline from the Mean Higher High Water Mark to the 15m contour line. Sediment profiling was carried out at specified locations using the gravimetric methodology with ASTM sieves. Secchi disk depth measurements were also performed to assess water clarity.

Result

The data collected from the bathymetric survey, sediment profiling, and Secchi disk measurements were analyzed to provide a detailed assessment of coastal erosion and to aid in the design of coastal protection measures. The results will contribute to effective planning and implementation of coastal management strategies for SEZAD Port.
