Bathymetric Survey in Wave Race Course

Overview

Nusail Engineering Consultancy, Sultanate of Oman was awarded the contract for a bathymetric survey for "The Wave Muscat" in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. The bathymetric survey was performed at the coastline of the project area for The Wave Muscat.

Scope of the Survey

Nusail Engineering Consultancy was contracted by The Wave Muscat to provide hydrographic survey services. The scope of the bathymetric survey included:

  • Line spacing of a minimum of 10 meters. The area surveyed was shown on a location map.
  • Preparation of maps with contour lines at 0.50-meter intervals and an appropriate scale for future design and bidding engineering works, e.g., Scale 1:1000 at A0 size or as approved by the Client.
  • Preparation of drawings showing the survey results in .dwg or .dxf format. The ASCII code (x, y, z coordinates) of the bathymetric survey was provided.
  • Correlation between the measured seawater levels and the existing Tide Prediction Tables and data from the closest port, with results indicated in the report.

Bathymetry Data Collection

Equipments of the Study

  • Odum Hydrotrac Echo Sounder
  • Transducer
  • Valeport Tide Gauge
  • Sokkia RTK GPS
  • Sokkia Total Station
  • Bar Plate

Bathymetry Survey Procedure

A pre-survey investigation was carried out at the proposed survey site to ensure a safe working area and to confirm that the Client’s survey objectives were met. During the survey, a Valeport Tide Gauge was installed at the key wall in The Marine The Wave Muscat, tied to a benchmark (NSA). Bathymetric data were acquired in The Wave Muscat area at 5-meter intervals along each line. All data from each of the peripherals were logged into software, with time logged in UTC.

Results

An Odom Hydrotack single frequency (200 kHz) single beam echo sounder was utilized to acquire bathymetric data. The bathymetric data were processed using HydroPro Software.
