Topographic survey Oman Hydrogen Plant at Duqm -Nusail Surveys

Overview

Project Overview

Green Hydrogen & Chemicals PSG, a pioneering firm in the renewable energy sector, embarked on an ambitious project to establish a Hydrogen Plant in Duqm, Oman. The project covered a vast area of 10,200 hectares, necessitating a comprehensive topographic survey to ensure precision and efficiency in the plant's construction.

Challenges:

One of the primary challenges faced during the survey was the region's weather conditions. The project site in Duqm was frequently subjected to heavy winds, significantly hindering the continuous workflow. This environmental factor posed a substantial obstacle, requiring innovative solutions to maintain project timelines and accuracy.

Technological Solutions:

To overcome these challenges, the team employed a combination of advanced surveying technologies:

  1. RTK Drone Surveys: The use of RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) drones provided high-precision aerial data, crucial for creating detailed maps of the aSreaaf.eTthyeasneddProenrefosrcmoualndcoeperate in challenging weather to an extent, collecting data more quickly than traditional survey methods.
  2. Mobile Mapping Systems: The integration of mobile mapping technology enabled the collection of large-scale geospatial data, even in difficult terrain. This approach was instrumental in capturing detailed surface data across the vast project area.
  3. 3D Laser Scanning: 3D laser scanners were utilized to capture detailed topographical and structural data. This technology was particularly useful in areas where drone flights were limited due to wind conditions.
  4. 4. Leica RTK GPS Systems: High-precision Leica RTK GPS systems were employed for ground-based survey points, providing a reliable framework for the aerial data and ensuring overall data accuracy.

Data Processing and Outcomes:

The collected data from these diverse technological sources were processed using Pix4D Mapper software. This advanced software facilitated the creation of:

  • 2D Ortho-mosaics: Comprehensive and accurate aerial view maps.
  • 3D Models: Detailed representations of the terrain and structures, aiding in the design and planning phases.
  • DEMs (Digital Elevation Models): Elevation data critical for understanding the landscape's contours.
  • 3D Point Clouds: Dense spatial data used for accurate measurements and analysis.

The combination of these technologies and advanced data processing resulted in a comprehensive and accurate topographic survey, despite the challenging weather conditions. This success laid a robust foundation for the subsequent phases of the Oman Hydrogen Plant project, marking a significant achievement for Green Hydrogen & Chemicals PSG in their quest for renewable energy solutions.
