Project Overview

Wood PLC conducted a comprehensive topographic survey for Duqm Refinery, focusing on a 236 km gas pipeline and 2,000 hectares of plant plots. The project involved detailed planning, execution, and mapping using state-of-the-art technology.

Key Phases and Solutions

1. Mobilization and Permissions: Organized essential equipment and manpower. Obtained necessary survey permissions for legal compliance.

2. Topographic Survey: Utilized advanced RTK drones, mobile mapping, and 3D scanning systems for feature capture, impact assessment, and boundary marking. Leica RTK GPS systems were used for precise benchmarking and land use documentation.

3. Permanent Benchmarks: Established benchmarks for future reference, ensuring durability and accuracy.

4. Survey Output and Calibration: Achieved comprehensive coverage with calibrated equipment, extending beyond the plant boundary.

5. Draft Submission and Objectives: Prepared an initial survey report, highlighting the use of drone technology and comprehensive data collection for accurate mapping.

6. Deliverables: Included geo-rectified mosaics, surface data, Digital Terrain Models (DTMs), and detailed reports.

7. Specialized Analysis: Conducted watershed analysis using DEMs, vegetation and tree mapping, underground utilities mapping, and community mapping.

Outcomes

The project successfully delivered detailed topographic data, crucial for the planning and development of the gas pipeline and plant plots. Despite challenges like extreme weather, Wood PLC's expertise in advanced surveying technology ensured accuracy and efficiency, setting a high standard for similar large-scale industrial projects.
